nephron stuff

go on that uploadedbiostuff@gmail.com for the animations~

I hate managing this damn thing D<

It takes up so much necessary time for me to do other stuff.

Sunday, November 23, 2008

here's the installation code for the cd-rom. Not that you guys ever use the cd.

Alright guys, I have a little announcement for you all. 5th period should know this, "shame on you if you don't" because both Grossman and I said it out loud. The quiz for Bio is moved to THURSDAY. But remember, the oyo is STILL TOMORROW! on wednesday

here's some stuff to help you with the whole 'water potential/osmotic pressure' crap.

Good luck~

Chapter 8 stuff

BE SURE TO SEE THE POST BEFORE THIS ONE!

Just some chapter 8 info for you guys~

I'm trying a new thing

alright guys, as you know, Grossman gave me over 40 pages to upload into the site. Because the majority of the papers are text, I've decided to type them up. If you feel that this is an easier way to print out the papers, please give me feedback tomorrow in class. Also, because I don't know how to upload a word doc onto a forum, I have established a new email where you as the student can go on and download the document there.

Alright guys, here are the answers to your study sheet:

Study sheet

so apparently, this was supposed to go up either yesterday or friday. I think. I'm not sure. But hey, the main thing is that it's here now~

Vocab <3

Hey guys! Grossman has decided to move the quiz for chapter 6 to friday due to the lack of terminology knowledge of first period. xD

**MORE TERMINOLOGY for your…
highly intelligent CELLULAR BIOLOGY DATA BASED gray matter !
chapter 6 -Campbell, 7th ed AND chapter 7 -Campbell, 5th ed

1. secretion vs. excretion vs. inclusion ??
2. proteolytic enzymes vs. hydrolytic enzymes ??
3. plasmolysis vs. lysis ??
4. cytoplasmic streaming and/or cyclosis and is there a connection
between this process and the f(x) of a central or contractile
vacuole??
5. oligosaccharides vs. glycoproteins vs. glycolipids ??

******************************************************************************************
6. tonoplasts ?*what is it? what organisms would have this structure?
*what is its function?
*what if it wasn't present in the cell?

7. contrast……. "intercellular junctions" ..what, why, where, in who

**PLASMODESMATA
**DESMOSOMES
**GAP JUNCTIONS
**TIGHT JUNCTIONS

8. riddle me this batmen and batwomen……

a) Which cellular component is similar in its microtubule arrangement to that of a "basal body"??

b) How does the process of "autophagy" relate to the idea of eukaryotic cells require "compartmentalization ligation" unlike prokaryotic cells?

c) The lipid/protein composition differences that occur among the
membranes of the endomembrane system is a result of or is
is determined by …..??

d) Why are cells considered to be "osmotic systems" ??

e) Microfilaments are associated with three main processes or f(x)'s
in cells. Name these three processes…..
HINTS: (karyokinesis) (Z-schemes) ("the blob")
(1) (2) (3)

9. define and give their function or where one might find these structures in the cell :
a) MATRIX e) CISTERNAE i) LUMEN
b) LAMINA f) STROMA
c) GRANA g) LAMELLA
d) CRISTAE h) THYLAKOID

10) HERE ARE SOME DESCRIPTIONS OF CELLULAR STRUCTURES…..
** TRY TO IDENTIFY "WHICH" CELLULAR STRUCTURES APPLY TO
TO EACH OF THESE DESCRIPTIVE STATEMENTS…..

a) energy transformations occur here to that ensure that the organism
has sufficient amounts of cellular energy for maintaining homeostasis

b) hydrolytic enzymatic action drives intracellular digestive processes
for growth and repair of cellular components as well as respond to
Senescence through autophagy

c) contains oxidases and catalases for metabolic processes carried
out by the cell that combat the detrimental effects of poisons and
other toxins that the cell may encounter

d) takes up the majority of the volume within a cell and is responsible
for maintaining osmolarity, enzymatic control, pigment distribution, and optimum defense mechanisms within the cells of the organism

e) autonomous cellular structures capable of carrying out its own
protein synthesis and inheritance factors

f) Synthesizes and modifies polysaccharides which are destined for
cell secretion

g) Necessary cellular structure that functions in regulatory mechanisms
in organisms referred to as "osmoconformers"

h) organelle responsible for collecting photon energy and converting
it into chemical energy for use in endergonic pathways of metabolism

composition and contents
16. contractile proteins >>> actin /myosin
>>dyein >> kinesin / tubulin
17. ribosomes in Euk exist as 2 separate subunits unless??
** inclusion **secretion **freely floating
18. microtubules vs., microfilaments
**types of functions they are responsible for making happen
over the course of the cells' lifetime
**composition of each??

*chromosome * chlorophyll
*cytosol *cytoplasm
*centrosome *chitin
*chlorophyta *clathrin
*chromatin
______________________________________________________
** well, check your list to this one folks…… if it matches , well I doubt it cuz
you know how I strive for supersaturation at all times to ensure your brains' appetite has been adequately satisfied…… I aim to please…..be ready for winning!!!
The top two teams have a free ride on the "RV EXPLORER" where there are only
30 seats left to "SAIL"…..

p..s.. thanks Harry!!!
